Rabon Hat Trick

Hey, remember that time that I said I was going to start a blog series with updates about the kids? A YEAR ago? Well, needless to say, I’m just doing a fine job at keeping up with it! But here we are, in the midst of a blizzard, so what better time to snap a few pictures of the kids (the albedo effect does wonders for window light) and write some updates.

Jonathan [7 years old]: This kid. He’s so stinking smart, you guys. He’s now about halfway through what is technically his first grade year, but doing all second grade work. And excelling. We had a conference with his teachers this week and he is rising to the challenge of being in the second/third grade class. He’s reading 1-2 grade levels above his own and loves being back in school in-person. He is looking forward to another soccer season starting next month and is “pro” at Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Switch. His ability to read all the subtitles on that game has lead to him being able to do so much more than expected for his age. He’s still a big fan of Legos (he built an expert level, ages 16+ Lego set basically by himself). His favorite thing about being 7 is getting a new bike – we found a good deal on Facebook Marketplace for the next size up bike and Stephen has spent some time on weekends giving it a tune up and replacing some worn parts. It’s a good looking bike and we’re looking forward to going on some family rides when the weather is better.

Abigail [2.5 years old]: Our little firecracker. She’s got personality on personality on personality. She talks so much now, and can often be found calling every member of the family “Baby” or “Angel” just like I call her – even her Dad. She loves to play games where she brings us various food items, performs check ups as Doctor Abigail, and runs back and forth on the landing upstairs running into the bedroom doors. I don’t know why, but she loves it. She knows all her colors, can count to 14 (before she starts throwing random numbers around) and loves when we spot an excavator in the wild (thanks Blippi). She is still living life trying to keep up with Jonathan, but also really enjoys having a duckling of her own to boss around… I mean lead. She carries around her little Bible (she calls it her Jesus) and loves to be read to. Her doll, Baby, is always with her.

Hannah [14 months]: Our littlest angel. She’s really starting to come into her own personality, and boy, is she fun! There is nothing cuter than watching her run after her siblings because she doesn’t want to be left out of anything. She adores her Dad. The second the garage door starts going up after he’s off work, she’s headed for the door and then when she sees him, she literally doubles over with joy. She’s an adventurous eater right now, willing to try just about anything and so far, loving almost everything we’ve given her. She’s even into stealing her dad’s pho noodles. She loves to dance, which is so fun and something all of our kids have loved and do love! She’s resilient, and she has to be, because she is trying so hard to keep up with the others that the bonks & bruises keep coming but she is back in the game as soon as possible. She’s sleeping great in her own room and has really made that transition so well.

Here are a few more pictures of the kids from today, and the craziness of trying to take photos of three kids (so many thanks to my husband for putting up with my random photo shoots).
